This Friday April 15 we will be airing another episode of “21st Century Entrepreneur” which is an Internet radio program aimed towards educating business owners and their advisors on how to make their businesses more successful and profitable. It is a show hosted by JC Maldonado who is the CEO of BizGro Partners and Joan Pelzer, the founder of Joan Pelzer Media. This week we will learn how about how Obamacare has affected small companies and what to do about it. We will interviewing Dennis Fiszer who is a Health Insurance and Employee Benefits expert. Dennis’s bio is below. We will also be interviewing Charles Kirsch who is the owner of Bay Personnel, a Professional Employer Organization (“PEO”) that provides Outsourced HR solutions to small companies. We will explore how PEOs are one of the best kept secrets in the world of small business.
Dennis Fiszer provides compliance and consulting services for the Eastern Region regarding health plans and other employee benefits. His areas of expertise include COBRA, FMLA, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), wellness programs, federal and state health care reform, employment and labor issues, ERISA, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), cafeteria plans, and compliance with Internal Revenue Code requirements for favorable tax treatment of benefits.
Dennis is a widely recognized speaker on employee medical benefits, and human resources issues. Key project work has recently included formulating and executing agenda, coursework and materials for eight-hour, Willis EB “Boot Camp” to train producers and account executives. He has also led HIPAA privacy, COBRA, GINA, Michelle’s Law, ARRA, MHP, ADA, CDHP and claims procedures seminars for clients. He has also coordinated similar programs internally as an organizational resource.
Dennis served as primary author of the HIPAA Security Compliance Guide, a client implementation tool featuring sample forms and exhibits for covered entities using the “long-route” to HIPAA compliance. He co-wrote the Willis Compliance Manual — a client facing publication offering detailed summaries of employee benefit topics as well as scores of related sample forms and exhibits. Dennis also served as editor and lead author of Willis’ primary external benefit publication, HR FOCUS, along with Willis EB Alert, Willis Marketplace Realities and other benefits-related publications. He designed and implemented turn-key tool kit for client group health plan dependent eligibility audits, planned detailed response to CMS “data match” demand letter for alleged Medicare Secondary Payer violations and has helped clients mount and enforce several highly successful subrogation claims. Dennis has an extensive background as a writer and years of experience reviewing client employee handbooks to ensure compliance. Related projects include drafting of summary plan descriptions, and HR forms for self-funded and insured clients.
Mr. Fiszer received an undergraduate degree in history from UCLA and Juris Doctorate from Boston University.
